Auriculotherapy is where the external surface of the ear, or auricle, is needled using very fine sterile disposable needles, to help conditions in other parts of the body.
This therapy is based on acupuncture, but it is derived from the discoveries by a French doctor in the 1950s. Dr. Paul Nogier. He discovered that specific areas of the ear are associated with pathology in specific parts of the body. Many texts on the topic of auriculotherapy tend to focus either on the Chinese approach to auricular acupuncture or on the European practices of auricular medicine.
Ear acupuncture is an excellent adjunct to the treatment of anxiety, poor sleep, and signs and symptoms related to coming off drugs such as nicotine, alcohol etc.
When I treat the needles remain in the ear for up to 40 minutes.
