About Traditional Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) technique that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to relieve pain and treat various health conditions. It is based on the idea that the human body has energy pathways (or "meridians") that connect the surface of the body to internal organs, and that the flow of this energy (or "Qi") can be disrupted by various factors, leading to disease or pain.
By stimulating specific points along these meridians with needles, acupuncturists aim to restore the flow ofQqi and promote healing and balance in the body. Although its effectiveness has been the subject of much debate, acupuncture is used by millions of people worldwide and is recognized by many healthcare organizations as a safe and effective form of alternative medicine.
In conjunction with needling, the practitioner may use techniques such as moxibustion, cupping, massage or electro-acupuncture. They may also suggest dietary or lifestyle changes. Traditional acupuncture takes a holistic approach to health and regards illness as a sign that the body is out of balance.
