Face to face visit

If you are still unsure and would like to see me face to face before you decide, then I am happy to call round and have an informal chat with you.

I will  arrange a date and time suitable for both you and the me. One of the advantages of having a home visit it that I am not restricted to surgery hours and many appointments are made for early mornings, evenings and over the weekend.

Generally my last appointment is 8.00 pm.

There are a number of important guidelines that we need to consider to safeguard the health and safety of all concerned and also to provide the best environment for you as a patient.

I usually need a private room with enough space so that I can use my portable treatment table (if required) and be able to move around.

I will need to be able to wash my hands in warm water, although I will also use my own cleaning and disinfecting products as part of the visit.

My aim is to provide the same relaxing and therapeutic conditions you would experience if you were to visit my clinic. Pets and children have never been a problem for me.

The cost of the treatment includes the use of disposable couch roll etc. these are all taken off site by me so you will have no waste to dispose of.

I take particular care to accommodate severely disabled, or wheel chair patients and I understand that in some cases it is not practical to use my portable couch and always adapt my treatments accordingly.

The first visit will always take longer and I allow at least one and half to two hours. Subsequent visits generally last around one hour.

The Consultation Process

Patients are often surprised just how detailed and the depth of some of my questions. This is because Acupuncture is a holistic approach and therefore I like to take a full case history of not just your physical health but the emotional aspects of your life.

I like to understand your lifestyle, sleep patterns, diet, stresses, and anxieties which affect you. So as well as enquiring about your medications and surgical procedures I may enquire what makes you irritated or angry for instance, if you get tired in the afternoons

Confidentiality

As a registered member of the British Acupuncture Council I am duty bound by a code of conduct performance and ethics. All of your information and records will be treated as strictly confidential and are not shared with anyone without your express written consent.

There may be a series of short physical examinations some of which you will be familiar with for example having your blood pressure taken.

Others you may not be so familiar with, for example I may check specific acupuncture points on the body to see if there is any localised sensitivity and we also compare temperature between various areas on the body. I may also look at your tongue and take your pulse.

Pulse diagnosis is a diagnosis  in Chinese Medicine and is taken on both the left and right wrists.

I will usually recommend a treatment plan for you and in most cases start on the first session.

After I have decided with you what points and therapy you may need I will prepare for your treatment by cleaning and disinfecting my hands.

Once all of the needles are inserted and in place they are usually in place for between 20 – 30 minutes. Treatments are designed to also be a relaxing therapy and usually end with you relaxing on the couch for a while.

After you have relaxed for a while I usually reassess the final outcome of the treatment.

I will often give you some additional advice that I feel may be beneficial to your health condition or your lifestyle.

Common advice might be for you to take it easy for a while after the treatment, avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, and make sure you eat and drink well.

I then tidy up and remove all of the materials they I have used during the treatment and finish.

It’s then time to pay and if required arrange any future visits.

Treatment costs are £55.00 to £60.00 depending on travel costs.
